Introducing our high-quality Bahia grass sod, the perfect solution for those seeking an attractive and durable lawn that requires minimal upkeep. Native to Brazil, Bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum Flugge) produces medium-green, vertical blades in stands that spread through rhizomes. This warm-season grass tolerates drought, heavy foot traffic and soil poor in nutrients, making it a low-maintenance choice where it is hardy, U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 5 through 11.

Our Bahia grass sod grows in full sunlight and well-draining soil with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5, and it establishes itself readily from sod when it receives the proper care. Sod works by growing grass in a layer of soil a few inches thick. Landscapers lay it down on top of your soil, and the roots grow down from the sod into your prepared ground. Therefore, the first few weeks are critical for the sod to take hold and become a lush lawn.

To ensure that your newly laid Bahia sod takes root and thrives, we recommend keeping the sod moist at all times for the first 10 days by watering it three times a day for about 10 minutes. After 10 days, you can reduce watering to once a day for the rest of the season. Avoid walking on the sod for at least two weeks to give it time to settle and become less fragile. You can apply fertilizer twice in the fall, in October and mid-November, using a 16-4-8 combination.

Once your Bahia sod is established, you can enjoy a lawn that is both beautiful and low maintenance. Bahiagrass has a deep ivy color and can tolerate inhospitable conditions well, especially drought and shade. When it comes to mowing, wait at least a few weeks after laying down the sod to ensure that the root system is well-established. Then, cut the blades of grass to about 2 to 3 inches tall, and try not to remove more than a third of the blade of grass when you mow.

Overall, our Bahiagrass sod is an excellent choice for anyone seeking an attractive and durable lawn that requires minimal upkeep. With proper care, it will establish itself quickly and thrive, providing a lush and vibrant lawn that you can enjoy for years to come.
